Michael Macaulay is Professor of Public Administration at Victoria Business School, Victoria University of Wellington. He was previously Director of the Institute for Governance and Policy Studies. He is currently a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Sunderland (UK) and York St John (UK), and is a former Visiting Professor at the University of Johannesburg (South Africa). He has published extensively in the fields of integrity, ethics and anti-corruption in leading international journals. He is currently leading the NZ research team on an Auz/NZ research project into protected disclosures and workplace misconduct that is the biggest piece of research in the field ever undertaken.

Michael has worked with numerous government agencies and NGOs in New Zealand and internationally, including the NZ Police, the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) the Council of Europe and Transparency International. He has represented New Zealand at the Open Government Partnership Global (OGP) summit (2015) and the inaugural Asia-Pacific Regional Summit in 2014 and works extensively with civil society and government agencies to promote OGP initiatives throughout the country. He has advised Ministry of Justice, SSC, and various other agencies on legislative reform.

Michael has developed Executive Education workshops around the world for the public, private and NFP sectors. His work on trust has been developed directly with practitioners in NZ and Australia, which underpins his teaching philosophy of creating tangible value and practical lessons for all learners. In his spare time Michael is a dad of two boys, and is a football coach for the magnificent Kapiti Coast United Bears under-11s football team.
